Unemployment is not a useful policy metric in North Dakota, though it gets mentioned often. I look at the recent data, map it, and discuss.
ND County Unemployment Rates, May 2019
I take a look at the incredibly low (in fact too low) rate of unemployment in ND and the recent changes.
North Dakota Unemployment Rate, April 2019
I once again argue that the unemployment rate in North Dakota is too low.
Unemployment and the Grand Forks Flood
JT and I are devoting a portion of my weekly appearance to the Grand Forks Flood of 1997, and the business and economic consequences of the event. The consequences of some events are best understood with the perspective of time, and natural disasters are clearly this type of event. For today’s post I chose to look at unemployment, but in a slightly different way.
Updated labor force data
The Bureau of Labor Statistic released updated data for North Dakota today, and as promised I am posting an update to the data from last week. Not much changed really. The preliminary unemployment rate for December 2016 is 3.0% which is the same as the revised rate for November. The November value was originally 2.9%. We are not going to get upset by a .1% revision.
