Sears and Irony

Perhaps the most amazing aspect of the seemingly imminent demise of Sears (story at the link below) is that this is the company that pioneered selling from a distance. The Sears Catalog was an iconic product making Sears a household name across the country in both rural and urban areas.

That companies like Amazon seem to be beating Sears at the same game they pioneered, just in the new playing field of the Internet, is all the more interesting. The local Sears closed here recently and not one caller to the radio shed a tear. The callers had nothing good to say about inventory, general product quality, or service from the employees.

In the spirit of Halloween it seems we should recognize Sears as a zombie retailer. They have been a dead company for some time, it is just that nobody seemed to tell the company.
