JT and I talk a great deal of baseball on the radio and my dad raised me on the Cubs. So for some fun I simulated hit streak data to see how “unlikely” the DiMaggio 56 game hit streak was.
Over the last month multiple people mentioned to me the issue of poverty in Grand Forks. They wanted to know what the data looks like and what it says, with a suspicion that it is higher in Grand Forks county than many others.
Inflation is another concern for the radio listeners. The idea that rising inflation is “new” is silly and not true while also not clearly the level of problem I hear suggested.
In a bit of a longer post I bring a bit more data to the discussion in terms of wages in Grand Forks compared to the other ND MSAs. It is a mixed bag but the data would not dispel the “notion” of Grand Forks as a low wage economy.
I discuss the difference of views from the radio crowd about two largely equivalent situations.
